Matt Turner is a driving force behind the Church Music Group and is a great help with Club Sunday. Here’s a brief interview from Matt. We know you will like it.NAME: Matt Turner.AGE: 29 and 29 months (or 31 if you want to be grown up).DATE OF BIRTH: 21st December 1978 (I was nearly called Jesus).WHERE WERE YOU BORN? In a hospital.WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? I spent the first 18 years of my life living in a town called Redditch near Birmingham with my Mum, Dad and Brother.WHAT’S YOUR CHRISTIAN STORY? I first went to church at the age of 15 when a friend and his family invited me, then I got more involved in the youth group and kept going because I fancied a girl in the group! Sadly I never went out with the girl - but I did stay at the church and got more involved, even becoming confirmed. At the age of 18 I moved to Exmouth to go to university and faced a crossroads of deciding what to do with my faith. I was very fortunate tomake some good Christian friends who helped me see what being an independent young Christian actually meant, and my time at university really helped to solidify my faith.HOW DID YOU END UP AT LINX? When I finished university I went to work as a trainee youth worker at a church in Exmouth before beingemployed full time by the church as their Youth and Community Worker running drop-ins, youth cell groups and taking part in local schools work. After five years working in Exmouth, I decided that it was time to move on and (although I was looking to move out of full time Christian work!) I ended up applying for the LiNX role.TELL US WHAT YOU DO AT LINX: My role with LiNX is the schools worker for Brixham College and I work very closely with the RE department and the Beliefs and Cultures facility looking to deliver areas of the schools curriculum from a Christian perspective. This can be challenging but also rewarding as I get to be part of the journey of so many young people as they explore issues of faith and spirituality. My role is also about building bridges between the College and the local Christian community - bringing Christians into the school to join with me in leading lessons, and visiting local youth provisions (like the Island Club) to build those relationships with the young people outside of school. At the moment the biggest project I am involved with at LiNX is ELEVATE, a non-residential summer camp hosted here in Torbay where we are hoping to build stronger links between the schools and churches by providing a quality summer event giving the local young people something to connect with over the summer.TELL US WHAT YOU DO AT CHURCH: As well as helping at the Island Club on Fridays, on Sunday mornings I often get to play the guitar and sing – and sometimes they even let me loose on the drum kit! On Sunday evening I help lead the Surge group for young people. This term we are offering two ‘streams’: a bible stream, currently looking at Luke, and a discipleship stream covering a whole range of issues from creation to relationships.http://www.linxyouth.net/newsletter/11julynews.pdf,
